Booking Botox or Filler in Lisbon as a Tourist: A Practical Guide

When to book relative to your trip, what to avoid before treatment, how to manage recovery while travelling, and what to ask your clinic before you leave Lisbon.

Cosmo Clinic Editorial

Is it realistic to get aesthetic treatment while visiting Lisbon?

Yes — with planning. Botox and most hyaluronic acid filler treatments have no downtime and fit comfortably into a trip of 3 days or more. The main constraint is not recovery time; it is timing your appointment correctly so that your treatment and your departure work together, not against each other.

Lisbon is one of the most popular cities in Europe for short visits — and it is increasingly also a destination for aesthetic medicine, because the clinical standards are equivalent to the UK and northern Europe while the prices are typically 30–50% lower. For context on pricing and why, see our article on botox in Portugal vs the UK and Ireland.

Which treatments work well for tourists

Botox — ideal for visitors

Botox has no visible downtime for most patients. Mild redness at injection sites fades within an hour. You can go about your day — restaurants, sightseeing, social events — immediately after treatment. The effect begins between days 3 and 7, with the full result at day 14. A flying visit of even 2–3 days works for botox, provided you are not expecting to see the final result before you leave.

Lip filler — works, but allow 48–72 hours

Lip filler involves more immediate swelling than botox. Lips will look swollen and potentially bruised for the first 24–48 hours. For most patients, the majority of swelling resolves by day 3–5 and the final result stabilises around day 14. If you have 4 or more days in Lisbon and can book early in your trip, lip filler is manageable. Booking the evening before your flight is not advisable.

Cheek, chin, or jawline filler — possible with sufficient time

Volume filler in cheeks, chin, or jaw typically involves some swelling that peaks at 24–48 hours and resolves over 5–7 days. These treatments work for longer visits (5+ days). If you are on a short break, discuss timing with your doctor — they can advise whether the planned treatment suits your schedule.

Rhinofiller — proceed with care

Non-surgical nose reshaping carries a slightly longer swelling curve and a specific post-treatment instruction: avoid pressure on the nose (glasses, sleeping face-down) for 1–2 weeks. Possible for tourists but requires more careful planning and clear communication with the clinic about follow-up access.

When to book: timing your appointment

Book for day 1 or 2 of your trip, not day 3 or 4.

The logic: if any concern arises (unexpected bruising, asymmetry, a question about the result), you want to be able to reach the clinic. If something comes up on day 1 and you have 3 more days in Lisbon, a follow-up is straightforward. If it arises the evening before your flight, it is not.

For botox specifically: the treatment takes effect over days 3–14. You will likely not see the full result before you leave. That is normal — you do not need to wait in Lisbon for the result to show.

Book for the start of your visit. Not the end. If you can only be seen on the last day, reschedule for your next trip — or ask the clinic to recommend the most time-appropriate treatment for your window.

What to avoid before your appointment

In the 24–48 hours before treatment:

  • Alcohol: dilates blood vessels and significantly increases bruising risk. Avoid for 24 hours before.
  • Aspirin and ibuprofen: inhibit platelet function and increase bruising. Avoid for 48 hours if not medically required. Do not stop prescription anticoagulants — tell the doctor instead.
  • Vitamin E and fish oil supplements: similar effect on bruising. Worth pausing for 48 hours if possible.
  • Retinoids and exfoliating acids: do not apply to the face the day before treatment.
  • Sun exposure: avoid significant sunburn to the face before treatment — particularly relevant in Lisbon in warmer months.

Flying after botox or filler

Botox: Flying does not affect botox. Cabin pressure has no documented effect on product migration or efficacy. You can fly the same day as botox treatment — maintain the standard 4-hour post-treatment guidance (avoid intense exercise, saunas, and head-down positions), then fly as normal.

Lip filler: Flying is fine, but if your lips are still visibly swollen, the dry cabin air may increase discomfort. This is a cosmetic inconvenience, not a clinical risk. Stay well hydrated and use lip balm during the flight.

Volume filler (cheeks, jaw): Same logic — flying does not harm the result, but visible swelling may still be present. Use the timing guidance above to plan accordingly.

What to get from your clinic before you leave Lisbon

Ask for a treatment summary in writing. This should include:

  • The product brand and type used (e.g., Botox® 50 units, Juvéderm® Volift 1ml)
  • Injection sites treated
  • The clinic name, doctor name, and contact details
  • Date of treatment

If you need to see an aesthetic doctor in your home country for any follow-up, this information allows them to understand exactly what was done and with which product. At Cosmo Clinic, we provide this as a standard part of the post-treatment process.
