Lip Filler in Lisbon: Complete Guide for First-Timers
Price, procedure, recovery, and how long it lasts, the answers you need before booking your first appointment. Written by Cosmo Clinic's medical team.
Most first-time patients arrive with the same two questions: will it hurt, and will it look obvious? Both have good answers. What's worth spending more time on is everything in between.
Lip filler with hyaluronic acid is one of the most performed aesthetic treatments at Cosmo Clinic. It's quick, reversible, and produces results that can look completely natural, or not, depending entirely on the doctor and how much product is used. This guide covers everything you need to know before you book.
What is lip filler, exactly?
Lip filler is an injection of hyaluronic acid (HA) gel into the lips. HA is a molecule that occurs naturally in the body; it attracts and binds water, which creates volume and hydration. The injected gel integrates with your tissue and gradually breaks down over months.
The main alternative, permanent filler, is something we don't offer and don't recommend. Permanent products can't be dissolved, so any complication or change in taste becomes a much harder problem. HA filler is fully reversible with an enzyme called hyaluronidase, which dissolves it in minutes if needed.
Reversibility isn't a gimmick. It's the single most important safety feature in aesthetic medicine. If something looks wrong, we can fix it the same day.
How much does lip filler cost in Lisbon?
Pricing at Cosmo Clinic depends on the volume used. The consultation is free, and you'll get an exact quote before any treatment begins.
One thing worth knowing: the cheapest option in Lisbon is rarely the safest. The product quality, the doctor's experience, and the time spent in consultation all factor into the final result. A correction after a poor result costs more than the original treatment.
What happens during the appointment?
A lip filler session at Cosmo Clinic runs about 45 minutes total. Here's how it breaks down:
- Consultation (10 min): The doctor assesses your lip anatomy and discusses your goals. This is where we agree on volume and shape before anything starts.
- Topical anaesthetic (20 min): A numbing cream is applied and left to work. This is the part that takes the longest.
- Injection (10–15 min): The product is injected in small deposits using a very fine needle or cannula. The filler itself also contains lidocaine, so discomfort decreases as it's applied.
You leave with fuller lips immediately. Expect some redness and possible light bruising at injection points, both normal and temporary.

How long does lip filler last?
Between 9 and 18 months, depending on four variables: the product used, the volume applied, your individual metabolism, and how active your lips are. Lips metabolise filler faster than areas with less movement, like the cheeks. Some patients see their results hold for 14 months; others need a top-up at 9.
The gradual breakdown isn't a problem. Volume decreases slowly and naturally, not in a sudden drop. When you decide to repeat the treatment, you're usually working from a baseline that's slightly better than your pre-treatment anatomy.
What to expect in the first two weeks
Volume is visible immediately, but the first 3 to 5 days bring some swelling that distorts the shape. This is normal; it doesn't mean the result will look like that permanently. The definitive result settles around day 14, when the product integrates with the tissue and post-procedural oedema fully resolves.
Aftercare instructions for the first 48 hours:
- Avoid intense physical exercise
- No alcohol or direct sun exposure
- Don't massage or press on the lips
- Sleep face-up if possible (reduces swelling)
- Stay hydrated; HA attracts water and settles better when you're well-hydrated
Most patients return to work the same day. Visible bruising is possible but uncommon, and usually resolves within 3 to 5 days.
Who is a good candidate?
Almost anyone who wants fuller or better-defined lips qualifies. There are a few situations where we pause: active oral infections, certain immune conditions, and the period immediately before and after dental procedures. Pregnancy and breastfeeding are absolute contraindications.
Age isn't a barrier in either direction. We treat patients in their 20s who want more definition and patients in their 50s who want to restore volume lost naturally over time. The approach differs, but the outcome standard doesn't.
The best candidate isn't someone with "bad" lips. It's someone with a clear, realistic idea of what they want and a doctor willing to say no if the request doesn't fit the anatomy.
The one thing most people get wrong
They focus on quantity. "How many ml?" is almost the wrong question. The right question is "where exactly?". One ml placed precisely produces a better result than 2ml distributed poorly. At Cosmo Clinic, our consultations spend more time on placement mapping than on volume decisions, because that's where the difference is made.
